In today's blog, we'll explore how whole, natural foods can support you throughout your pregnancy. From morning sickness to meeting your little bundle of joy, we'll explore the benefits and how incorporating them into your daily routine will set you up for long-term success postpartum.

Excitement in the First Trimester

You've been patient, you've prayed, the moment is finally here. You flip over the Clearblue test on your counter (maybe for the first time, maybe for the thirtieth time) and there they are: two perfect little lines. Congratulations, mama! You're having a baby! Along with the happiness comes the nausea, the cramping, the hot flashes and more. Your senses are heightened, your body is evolving, and every lunch option sounds horrendous.

Foods rich in B6 and ginger are helpful during this time for aiding with nausea. Finding foods with folate and choline are helpful as they aid in neural tube development.

Anticipation in the Second Trimester

The raging storm of the first trimester quells, and you're left on your ship coasting a bit through calmer waters. Food finally tastes good again, nights feel more restful, and the anticipation of getting to meet your mini-me feels unbearable. You never knew you could love someone so much before ever even meeting them in this life, but here you are!

Focusing on iron rich foods and calcium are incredibly helpful for supporting the body during this time via improving CBC and ferritin levels.

Preparation in the Third Trimester

Just when you though the waves had calmed and the sea finally felt like it might be on your side, WHOOSH! Your body begins to prepare for the beautiful, primal, all-encompassing tidal wave that is birth. Sleep becomes difficult, you're peeing when you sneeze, and as beautiful as this journey has been for you, you're more than ready to meet your little one. How can we support us through the final leg of pregnancy?

Foods rich in DHA's and EPA's and other healthy fats can be incredibly wonderful at supporting the body through this transition and aid in baby's brain development. Magnesium rich foods are also wonderful for sleep.

Welcoming Baby & Postpartum

They're here. They're real. You did it. Congratulations, mama!

You hold your baby in your arms, the most precious thing you've ever seen in all your days. Their little hands, their tiny toes, the way they yawn...everything is perfect. And their SMELL! Yes, sleepless nights and cracked nipples are potentially to come, but right now, none of that matters. Your baby is here and you feel complete.

Final Thoughts

We hope you've enjoyed this information on the process and benefits implementing whole foods can have for aiding you through the pre and postpartum process. Though we've only scratched the surface on the true positive shift that can come along with trying out this method of self care, we hope you've taken away what this incredible practice can do for you!

With love,

The Wildflowers
